The game of the twentieth round drew the SKY cameras to the DW Stadium as second placed Wigan Warriors hosted third placed Warrington Wolves with both sides looking to consolidate their top four spots ahead of the split into the Super Eights.

This is the fourth 2018 meeting between the two sides with the Wolves having been the victors on two previous occasions, the last meeting being their 23-0 win in the Challenge Cup on the 2nd June.

A rejuvinated Warriors were favourites with the bookies, but the Wolves are a side who have a recent habit of beating their hosts.

Warrington’s nine-match winning streak came crashing to an end when they met Wigan at St James Park today.

A see-sawing first half saw dominance switch between the two on-form sides.

Wary of what a second v third tie at Magic Weekend could produce, Wigan took the first opportunity to open the scoring by kicking a penalty.

But it was Warrington who crossed the try-line first, with Harvey Livett going over when the ball was moved across the field after Ryan Atkins was stopped in inches short in the opposite corner.

In what was drawn out as a home game for Championship table toppers Toronto Wolfpack, the Canadian side travelled to the Halliwell-Jones to take on the Warrington Wolves.

The Wolves are on a brilliant winning run which has seen them up to third in the table but their near namesakes from over the pond have only lost one game all season.

This was a big test of the ‘Super League readiness’ of the Wolfpack with both the pro- and anti- expansionists paying close attention to the outcome, and more importantly the performance.

Could Toronto follow Leigh in performing a shocking entry into the quarter finals or would the Wolves send their opponents packing back to Canada with their tail between their legs?

Opting to let the ‘train take the strain’ the Warrington Wolves players and staff arrived in Hull in good time for one of two Super League encounters to brave the ‘beast from the east’ as the match went ahead at the KCOM Stadium.

With many supporters trapped the wrong side of an M62 closure, and following a ‘do not travel’ recommendation issued by Greater Manchester Police, the visitors were forced to manage without their vocal away support.

A victory for FC would lift them above the Wolves into fifth spot but a Warrington win would see them into the top four as the two sides above them, Wigan and Widnes, met in the other fixture which had survived the arctic armageddon.

It was red hot in Warrington for the prime slot Saturday afternoon BBC TV fixture between a struggling Wolves side and a Wigan outfit having a mixed season that had them off their usual high league position.

The pre-match warm up brought another blow for the Wolves with Kevin Brown having to withdraw making way for Declan Patton to be drafted in.



The Warriors welcomed back Sam Tomkins for his first game since last September, Gelling from a six week absence and Bateman for only his second game of the season.

Would the return of some of the Wigan old guard prove too much for the out of form Wolves to secure a semi final spot?

Two tries from Joel Monaghan helped Warrington to an efficient 26-14 win over Wakefield at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and put them second in the table.



The result leaves Warrington just one point behind leaders Huddersfield, while setting back Wakefield's play off hopes to leave them in tenth place, three points outside the play off positions.

However, the match seemed more akin to a training contest rather than one which had significant Super League places at stake, in the sense that it severely lacked the intensity and flair that characterises many top level matches.

Joel Monaghan scored a try either side of half-time to help Warrington into the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup where they will face Hull.



Warrington started at a frightening pace chalking up a 20-0 lead by the 25 minute mark through Paul Wood, Trent Waterhouse, Micky Higham and Chris Briers.



The visitors scored twice before the break to spark a possible comeback but Monaghan scored his second and Lee Briers scored to put the game beyond doubt.

Warrington Wolves held off a second half fightback against the Wigan Warriors to win 22-12 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.



Top of the table Wigan went into the match six points ahead of their rivals in third place but found themselves 10-0 down at half time after scores from Ben Westwood and Joel Monaghan.

Hull FC gave their best performance of the season in an enthralling 26-16 victory over the Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.



Despite the return of Wolves captain Lee Briers a second-half fight back from the black and whites gave the Hull side a well-earned two points in a game dominated by strong defensive efforts from both teams.

St Helens bounced back from last week’s defeat against Leeds with a convincing 22-10 lead against Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.



Warrington endured their first back to back losses in nearly two years as they couldn’t overcome the first half advantage Saints earned a 14-0 lead through tries from Jordan Turner, Lance Hohaia and Francis Meli.
